DECIPHERING LUCY · SECTION 10 OF 74
Chapter Seven — Reaction
Lucy's mind spun faster than her feet could move.
What even was this?
Doors reacting to her soul?
Archivists reading her memories?
Her name turning into some kind of… key?
For the first time since all of this started—
She actually had a moment to herself.
A single, spiraling, breathless moment.
And of course…
Her thoughts hit in stages.
Stage One: Complete Panic.
It hit hard.
Loud.
Messy.
A mental string of profanity that would've made a sailor blush.
No logic. No plan.
Just pure, white-hot mental screaming.
Honestly, she wasn't even sure you could call it "thinking."
It was more like full-body chaos, concentrated in her skull.
Stage Two: Calm Down… Or Pretend To.
Deep breath in.
Deep breath out.
Except—
That never actually helped, did it?
Breathing exercises didn't account for waking up inside a digital fever dream where doors pulsed with your emotions.
Keep calm and carry on.
Yeah… that felt like a cruel joke.
Still—
She had to try.
Freaking out wasn't going to fix anything.
Not yet, anyway.
Stage Three: Form a Plan.
Okay. So.
Best-case scenario?
Really bad acid trip.
Minor flaw in that logic?
She didn't do acid.
Maybe this was a simulation?
A coma dream?
A glitch in the Matrix?
Honestly, at this point—
Did it even matter?
No.
What mattered was this:
Panic wasn't going to write her story.
And she wasn't about to stand here forever, staring at two glowing doors like a confused protagonist in some cryptic video game.
Not Lucy.
Time to figure this out.
